Joanne,
You have the right idea.  In the last 20 years or  so we have spent lots
of money on books.  Occasionaly, one piece will pay for the book when
you find the right information.
Much Shawnee goes unidentified when it just has the # and U.S.A.  Brush
the same way, except the S is always a bit larger.  Shawnee glaze is
usually very distinctive once you get familiar with it.
