Someone out there in McCoy collecting land must know something about this. It is NOT in any McCoy books I've ever had, and I never heard of it in 20 years until it started to show up on eBay. It does resemble McCoy, but according to the seller it is marked with Econoline and a number. Sorry about not responding until now to all those wonderful holiday good wishes. Like everyone else it's been real busy here. In addition we turned the 'computer room' back into a bedroom and moved all the equipment to a "junk" room that took several hours to cleanout!! I currently have a telephone cable pulled across the dining room floor - don't feel like crawling under the house today. My youngest daughter's boyfriend gave me the "Kookie Kettle" jar for Christmas. I also recently found the Wishing Well at an auction. Someone was asking about the chain. If you will send me a 'direct' email to lpeedin@mindspring.com I'll reply and attach a digital picture of mine with the chain attached. The other night, while browsing the TV channels I came across the program "That 70's Show". Right there in their hallway on a shelf is the McCoy Wishing Well planter. I saw it first at a glance and then they had several scenes where the shelf was in the background and the Well was clearly visable. Happy New Year to everyone - lunch is here, so I'll close for now. I thank God having given me the good sense to go ahead buy a snow blower about twice as big as my wife thought I needed because it has been getting quite a work out the last two days or so. A joker registered with eBay on Jan. 16 and bid on 50 different postcard auction, 2 of them mine. His eMail bounces back and his phone doesn't answer. NEVER sell anything to sssdf@aol.com. There is no such eMail address. I can sell the more expensive item to the next highest bidder and relist the other one. The idiot placed 2 bids on it for $2.00 and $2.25. I will look in my book tonite and let you know on Monday. (I am at work) Or if I go by my father-in-laws, I will try from there sometime this weekend. These dishes were made in the '70's. There were salt and pepper shakers, creamers, sugars, etc. The dishes were a complete line if I am not mistaken. I am assuming that they are like the brown drip. There is probably someone out there that has a more definitive book than the one I have but I will see what I can find for you. Hello: Yes the crazing happens from moisture that gets under the glaze, this happens during washing of iems like the cookie jars. crazing in many respects adds to the beauty of the item and companies that do reproductions actually simulate the crazing. As far as how and where to display...well I have them on special shelves made for the wall to placement as decoration in various rooms in the house and office. The biggest problem is running out of room since I want to enjoy them and have others see them...I even have the web cam to share with collectors on the internet...the problem is I have gone through 3 cameras. There is a quote from Nelson McCoy in the Sanford's Guide to Mcoy pottery "Canyon was a Two-color Brown line with a textured Mat glaze. We had Ram Plates and Jigger Plates. There were 28 completer pieces in the line." The book pictures quite a few pieces and they are a two-tone brown. TEh dark rim looks shiny and the rest of the piece is a lighter color that looks matte. Does that fit the description? As to crazing, I have had aome pieces of Wisecarver and Robinson-Ransbottom craze when they have neer been used, so I would guess Dwayne's answer is nearest to being correct. Regards - Dewayne Imsand Yes that is correct that the clay and the glaze exhibit thermal shock due to expansion and contraction of the two different items (glaze and clay) since both have different rates of expansion and contraction. This is usually seen in the manufacturing stage, when the clay and glaze produce the moisture and heat, hence thermal shock. however the crazing over time is a function of the moisture absorbed into the clay during water washing when exposed to the unglazed bottom or other areas that the glaze did not cover. The only pieces I have in my collection that exhibit the crazing are some cookie jars and flowerpots and vases. These obviously had exposure to water and heat hence the thermal shock. >>I'm new to this list, but have a question thought you all might be able to >>answer. What causes crazing? Is it moisture?
