Nanacobb 0000,0000,FFFFMay I make a suggestion....Do not use any of the books as price guides, use the best value..available.... "what are you willing to pay and what are you will to sell for". The values stated in any of the publications are subjective. Be objective and the values will be evaluated by you the collector rather than a publisher and author of the book thus will not need to be re-evaluated. I know many will say that they need the price guides ...then use them if you need them, but if you question them, then they are meaningless. We have ordered the Jeffrey Snyder McCoy book, and like it very much. We too feel that the prices are more appropriate, but as we have said to the author, we fear that the other books have so inflated McCoy prices, that his won't make any difference. Dealers see big dollar signs now with respect to any piece of McCoy it seems, no matter how common it may be, so they're not about to adjust their prices downward, we fear! We have decided that if we see a piece of McCoy we want, and we can afford it, and feel the condition is worth the asking price, we buy it--regardless of what the "experts" say. There are some great pictures of pieces not shown in any of the other books on McCoy, as well as some better shots of some rarer pieces photographed in earlier books--- the discus thrower, the victory vases, the Keats planter, Robin Hood mug, and a great cobbler's bench, to name just a few. We are glad that we made this purchase-- as we said, we don't make much use of the price guide portions of the books anyway, and it's good to have another reference to work with. The photographs of great McCoy pieces are what interest us most, and we feel that this book delivers in this respect just as well as the other reference works available. We started in McCoy over 20 years ago. Now we do more buying for resale than for a collection. Yesterday we saw, in one booth at a large mall we were visiting for the first time, a rather flower pot in terrible condition for over $20.00. The basketweave pots are still so plentiful and common, but the prices seem high for us. We have never paid more than $50.00 for ANY piece, and back in those early years when we bought anything we didn't have if we liked it, there were 2 times (forgive me for those who have heard this story) we bought whole collections--maybe 100+ pieces--for an average of around $2.00 each. Pottery-collecting is a disease. We had thought to quit when my husband wasn't feeling well, but he is doing much better, and we are back at the auctions, garage sales, shops, etc. again. Also, we are looking forward to the McCoy Lovers Reunion next month. The one we went to is at I-71 Plaza on Rte. 18, just north of the interstate. The other one would be just a bit farther north on the other side of the road. I believe it was called Trade Winds. We ran out of time and energy because the one we went to is so big. We were there from the time it opened at 10:00 a.m. until about 3:30, including time for lunch, which is available there. There is also one at New Philadelphia that is supposed to be very nice. Haven't been there, but I know people who have The McCoy Lovers reunion is in Zanesville, headquartered at the Thriftlodge, the week of July 11. There are several pottery auctions in the areea that week. Most of the McCoy activities are July 13 through 15. For nformaon email Nancy Spruill at mctea42@aol.com. He shows a kitchen set that includes a covered casserole, covered dishes, plates, tea set, butter dish and oblong tray for $100-$150 for the set. What he shows in the picture may not be everything, because the one thing looks like either a small cookie jar or part of a cannister set. These are white with plaid flowere and green lids and a green bottom to the butter dish. This gives you a bit of an idea. I guess, next to you and some others, I am relatively new at collecting McCoy. I started about 5 years ago and have a nice size collection. I am interested in getting the Jeffrey Snyder McCoy book. Can you or someone tell me how or where to get it. I called 2 book stores in my area and they have nothing on any Snyder. Help!! The book sounds like a must. I have 4 other McCoy books now and love them all. If you don't find it, write again, and I'll give you the information out of the front of the book. I think it is less getting it off eBay, though. We got into McCoy when our 5 children, now all grown, were young. It was cute and cheap and gave us something to do. They liked going with us to this flea market at a drive-in theater on a Sunday after church. Now Wendy's national headquarters stands on that spot, Hope you enjoy your collecting. I am a new subscriber, and a novice at collecting McCoy Pottery. Would one of you please look up the prices for a set of dinnerware I just purchased. I have a full set including serving pieces of McCoy pottery marked 1412, 1413, etc. It is a rust colored finish with black speckeled edges. Would you please list its age and value for dinner plates, mugs, bowls, etc. I really appreciate it as I do not have any books whatsover. Thanks very much. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From revaughn@webtv.net Wed, 30 Jun 1999 08:46:42 -0400 (EDT) Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 08:46:42 -0400 (EDT) From: ELIZABETH VAUGHN revaughn@webtv.net Subject: McCoy Pottery List Digest #55 - 06/27/99 Don't know much about the dinnerware values, but when I have time, I may look in some of my books.
