Shafer was a Jobber, who bought seconds from various potteries, mostly in the
50's and 60's, and mostly in the Ohio Valley. Then decorated with Gold Trim,
and resold both wholesale and retail. Gold is very hard to fire. They had
perfected the firing of the gold, and did it on McCoy, Shawnee, American
Bisque, Hull, and many other potteries. They did it for along time before they
started using a stamp, probably after the potteries learned the art.
