My mother has a coffee set that includes the pot, creamer and sugar bowl. It is gold ~ like what I have been seeing on ebay listed as sunburst. It says McCoy on the bottom of it. I was wondering if anyone can give me any information on it? If I see a piece of McCoy, I negotiating for it, if it catches my eye. That one of the incredable, unique things about the McCoy pottery. Until i get a book, or subscribe to the newsletter mentioned, i am going strictly on what appeals to my eye.......i certainly won't be buying anything very expensive till i learn more. I find i'm drawn to the vases and jardiniere's in light colored matte glazes, altho i've seen a cobalt blue vase i thought was very nice too. I'm trying to stick to 2-3 colors. I was thinking if i could find the one style of pottery--say a leaves and berries motif on a vase-- but in 2 or 3 different colors, they would look nice displayed on a shelf next to one another. I like the simpler styles, nothing elaborate or w/ more than one color glaze on a piece. Cookie jars are cute---i like the fruit shaped ones.......i've seen Barbara's (barbwire) pottery website and she had three fruit-motif cookie jars sitting together and they looked great. What an incredible collection she has! Anyway, my kitchen is way too small to put a collection of anything in.....guess i'll stick w/ vases and small jardiniers for now ;) I like Stengl too! His "thistle" pieces are cute. I also like John Edwards dinnerware. I don't own any of these pieces yet, but i still keep admiring them ;) I'm a first time homeowner, i'm trying to take things slow ;) This is much longer than i wanted it to be...sorry to ramble on. Jane, Mccoy has some very nice wall pockets in the shape of fruit. Very small , to fit in a small kitchen. If you look on ebay you can see pictures of them. By the way the fruit wall pockets will match the fruit cookie jar. If anyone would who would have a mccoy stagecoach that they want to get rid of please let me know. I'm with you, Jane, about sticking to certain colors. I have an old rather shabby narrow shelf with Mccoy planters only setting on it. I like the off-white, green, and yellows together in the unpolished finish. My husband and I did pick up a beautiful light blue vase recently at an auction that came in a lot with other things. At first I ignored it, but it grew on me--the color is so pretty. Intend to to subscribe to NMXpress newsletter-- thanks for that info. Chiquita, let us know about your visit with Martha Stewart--how cool! I go for vintage linens too, especially old, embroideried dish towels, and potholders. Talk about pricey! I find I keep changing in my tastes for McCoy...I have some cookie jars in my kitchen, but for a collection I've gone from the rustic line to butterflies and matte white. I keep coming across more and more I would love to have if my house would hold it! Studying the marks helped me a lot at flea markets and yard sales. Some of the marks are barely visible on the bottom, but by knowing the basic designs I could make out it was a McCoy mark once used. I'm a butterfly and hummingbird gardener, so this line really suits my tastes! The design of the butterflies remind me of going outside and finding scads of butterflies on my butterfly bushes! It's like a layer of snow some days...so many butterflies lined up on the floret spikes! There are so many wonderful colors and shapes of items in the butterfly line! I have 10 pieces so far! I had to give up on two recently due to a death in the family, but, hopefully they'll come along again when the timing's better!
