Rick,
The best way to tell the USA marks is to see how they look on the pieces
that you know.  Also, you kind of get to know what something is just by
the glaze, etc.  Brush pottery typically has the S bigger than the U and
the A.
Where are you from in northwest Ohio?  I am from Carey ( many many years
ago) and my husband is from Defiance (even more many years ago).  We
were having all that snow when northwest didn't get much. Today it has
been above freezing.  There were flurries this morning that turned to
occasional rain sprinkles.
