Or go back to the auction and click on ask seller a question. I had a bad experience too. I won an auction and I could not mail the check out right away, (sick mother). I did email telling that I would send the check right away. Well in two weeks I received bad feed back. My first out of 150. I didn't receive my item for two months......It was a bank with no stopper. I had to trash it....I left her bad feed back telling everyone, just like the other 4 people did. I know now to look at the feedback to see what other people said.... I never deal with anyone who has private feedback. Which she now has..I should have understand her name...I-AM-ANTISOCIAL....Looking back now that should have said it all. That is the most I am willing to spend on the item. I do not have to "close watch" the auction, I just merely wait it out. If I do get out bid, not a problem, as I didnt want to go any higher anyways, as I have entered my max from the beginning. I find people are more likely to bid against you once a bid is placed, as there are those out there, of the type that "just will not be outbid" at any cost,...really. Now, for those serious items that you would give just about anything to have, I use a sniping program (Bidnapper) because I find that auctions without bids draw less attention than those with bids already. Using the sniping software, your bid stays hidden until the last few seconds of the auction,....so if no one else has placed a bid already on that item, it looks as if there is "no interest" in it, eventhough you have already entered your highest bid,.....it stays hidden, as if no one is "watching" or has noticed that auction. I know sniping seems a bit unfair, but really its not, and more and more serious bidders are using them. Hope this helps. I found one dealer that had 4 McCoy cookie jar's and 2 McCoy boot lamps. He was asking $500.00 each for the lamps and the cookie jars he wanted 300.00 each on them. All 4 were reproduced jar's he said he had been collecting for 40 years and was just clearing out some of them. My husband asked him how many he had and he said that his collection was over 4000 jars. Of course we just walked off and I told my husband that I bet you could buy all 6 piece he had and come back by in 15 minutes and he would have the same thing out again. FINALLY! McCoy that I could afford. Also some Brush McCoy as well. Most notably I did buy the Happy Bunny and he is in great condition! There were several absentee bids on him, but I persisted, probably more than I needed to! I got a couple of nice vases, a Cowboy (?) Mug, and a 3 piece set of Brush. One vase was attributed (unmarked) to McCoy but I wasn't sure. I bought it because the price was right and I'll get photos tonight, but to describe it, it is plain matte off white. It is around 7.5 inches tall and is ridged. On top of the ridges is a flower on one side and a leaflet on the back. The handles are double, very similar to a bow. I would love help identifying it. What else? Well a large early Van Briggle flower form compote. A Weller flower frog. A Roseville vase. A few pieces of Hull, nothing important.... And a lot more! I guess the list has been very quiet, huh? There's a Smiley Face Bank at an auction I'm going to tomorrow. Are these particularly sought after? Also..... There's an auction I'm going to next Sunday that has over 150 pieces of OLD pottery. Weller, McCoy, Brush Onyx (my new love!), Rookwood, Roseville, Hull, Owens, Peter and Reed and several other Ohio Potteries. It's the liquidation of an Antiques store. And the neat thing (for me the buyer) is it hasn't been advertised ANYWHERE!!! The Auctioneer does liquidation auctions of businesses and didn't advertise it in any of the national publications or local publications (that came out today for the next week) that folks use to find the local auctions! My friend and I are just chomping at the bit to get to this one because we "think" we can buy some really nice things for much less than what goes locally at these auctions. To add to that 2 of the large auction houses locally are having huge sales this week which will attract others as well. Can you tell I'm excited? I have been buying a bit of the onyx Brush and I am just in love with the browns!! And other news???? Well I found a reasonable place at a little Mall in downtown Newark today that I'm 90% sure I'm getting a space in. It's almost to the front door and very visible. They had a lot of traffic today when I was in there and during the week Newark is packed during the day, unlike most towns. I'm really excited and have no idea how to set up a booth! Any pointers? There are no walls or anything, just a space about 8 X 10 feet. I found it via another auctioneer's web site when I was trying to put my new bookmarks back on this new computer so was hitting links of Auctioneers. I'm sure it will end up in the Dispatch or something this week, but I can't believe he didn't do the Merchandiser, Advertiser, or Antique Week! Clum's is having a great 3 day auction this week as well as Garths which were the 2 I was talking about. I "was" hoping you would be there though too so we could meet!
