I am using my new email address here -- trying to get stuff moved over to this account. - - - Actually it was sort of an eBay love-fest! Ten thousands folks attended and most, of course, eBay enthusiasts. Most of the folks appeared to be power sellers and that's what the vendors/ebay focus more on. I was amazed at the amount of folks who are fairly new, yet powersellers. I will be doing some reviews of various software over the next month on stuff available to sellers. There were a few vendors that had some more aimed for collectors -- and will work on those too. One vendor that I thought had possibilities is a new site called SmartCollector For a fee (of course) you can tap into their data base on eBay prices, I believe over the last three years. They are still not live -- sometime in the next week or two and will give a free trial subscription. I finally got sort of an answer to why they allow Private Feedback for Sellers. Apparently it's a legal thing -- something about if they are allowing feedback, you have the right not to make it public. I've asked this question numerous times, this was the first time I got an answer. I've asked lots of questions about the fake issue -- they are slowly rolling out the verification programs. The stamp program is out and has been very successful. The coins veification program is fairly new. I've asked repeatedly about the pottery -- I think it will come, but not in the near future. There are several reasons why and without going into them all -- I can understand why. I'm slowly putting stuff on the collectibles.about.com website. Take a look at the new boxes that will be available free at the post office. I think they're cool. Also coming up will be an article on a lady that collects blue pottery. Very nice McCoy fanatics. He had pictures of his personal collection, and while I was looking over his showcase, he asked if I was a collector and started showing me his collection! I bought a Pierce Arrow decanter from him....he has this poppy sitting on his shelf if anyone wants to skip Zanesville, (which is where I am sitting now!). I have his email somewhere in the car. He had Baa Baa's, wall pockets, etc. I even had to wait for them to open at 1p, (it was Sunday). Went to Newport via Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg....way too many people! We didn't even stop. From Newport, entered the Blue Ridge Parkway from exit 20 in North Carolina....my husband was driving and wanted to know what the view looked like. I told him he would have to pull over at the next overlook, as I wasn't looking out the side windows! :) Next stop was Greenville/Greer, SC. Took back roads back up to Ashville, found a brand new mall. Also found the Jupiter decanter set, minus the passenger car! Great price for the three pieces! Back on the Parkway until exit 200. Spent the night in Wyethville, VA. Everyone must go to the Old Fort Mall at exit 77 on I-77/81! Go in the door, and to the right.....MCCOY everywhere! Either they or the mall to the North, (there are like 3 in a row!) had the Colby Cat for $200! Also, a CJ they called the squirrel, but I sure am hoping it was the chipmonk, as I left it sitting there....$110! :) ZANESVILLE is getting ready for all of you. Wish I could stay, but if you want the cat teapot....there is still one left at Clara Belle's....the other one at Olde Town is in my car....$76! Old Towne, go to the left my children and prepare to hyperventilate! Dealer, WND, was unpacking boxes and boxes...Roseville, Hull, McCoy! She is the one I got the teapot from! They also have the rabbit for ....don't quote me....$385, Clossens had one for $480?? and a Angel Fish (mini) for $530! WND also had a bluish Rodeo planter, she has lots of everything. How can one dealer have sooooo much? I wish they would share it with us at a cheaper price! :) Just be sure and bring lots of McCoy dollars! Everyone have fun. I found a place on 93/Avondale called Burt's Pottery. He has some McCoy CJ's...Apollo, Friendship 7, Raggedy Ann, etc. Been here 4 times now and just discovered Zanesville has a North side beyond the freeway! Thanks to everyone who had suggestions for me. Next stop ....Findley, then home to Mt Pleasant Michigan.....I will see everyone next year in Zanesville.... That was a fantasy of Roger Jensen's, coined by myself and my wife when we tried to help him become legitimate. He couldn't hold up under the watchful eyes of the public, and has retreated back into his hole of fakes and cons. We finally got him evicted from his "factory", and he's operating out of a little lean-to he built behind his rented house (which he owes MANY months of back rent for). Jensen McCoy is a myth, a fake, and a lie. Kevin At 12:14 PM 7/5/04, you wrote: >does anyone have a link to jensen mccoy site? No, the site he had at jensenmccoy.com was really ours. We paid for, and was never reimbursed for, a site that featured his "new" products under the Jensen McCoy mark. When we left, we took the site down. He had a presence at http://www.wholesalecentral.com , but it looks like he's gone from there also. Chiquita, this is not directed at you, but to the list in general. Last year I was involved in a major battle with the City of Wagener over it's unwillingness to do anything about Roger and his business. Not only was he hurting the collector, but he was taking advantage of the local people. I posted on this list just a few things that he was involved in, like abusing handicapped individuals, and violating child labor law. The mayor of Wagener refused to hear our plea to do something about this jerk, saying that he doesn't see the harm Roger was causing with his product (he completely ignored the mounting evidence of his local abuses). I had a GREAT idea, and asked for the help of this list. I provided a mailing address to the Town of Wagener, and asked the list members to write our mayor and explain just HOW Roger was hurting the collectors. I asked that not only THEY write, but pass the word on to others that might want to help. The mayor received, by my count, ONE (1) letter. Here we had a chance to make a difference, to really do something about the problem, and we cast our chance aside. We had a chance to take a stab at the heart of the fake market, and failed ourselves. We will NEVER make a difference going after the ebay seller that sells Roger's jars. They can buy these jars at quite a few wholesale outlets. and are just selling what is available to them. Can't blame them for trying to make a buck in this economy. The blame falls on the manufacturer that scratches McCoy on the bottom of his jars, and now the blame falls on us. If we are unwilling to even take a few moments out of our lives to write a real, stamp on the envelope, business class letter, then fingering the end seller is pointless. This is why I haven't started the series of articles I promised. I've been feeling like nobody really cares, except for gossip's sake. Getting off soapbox.... This note was posted on my Cookie Jar BB.. and wondered if anyone could help answer it either here or over there.... " acquired a cookie jar in 1993 which was sold to me as a McCoy Leprechaun jar (unmarked). I am an avid collector and believe the jar to be an original. The height is somewhat over 12"(about 12 1/2) and the weight is quite heavy (what you would expect it to be for a vintage jar). The colors are quite beautiful, he is dressed in green with some gold trim on his tie and boots(which are black). What makes this jar look so different is that his arms and hands are flesh colored like his face. Most jars I have seen are painted the same color as the clothing. The jar has some dark crazing inside the bottom of the jar, and light crazing on the flesh colors (face & arms). My problem is the fit of the lid to the base of the jar. It is not a solid fit, and has some definitive space at a couple of spots. Is this common to this particular jar,or could this be a mis-matched lid and base? Do a listing with a Buy It Now of 2 cents. List like 10 "pieces" of your advice at once. Don't put advise in the body of the listing, but legitimately "sell" it! When the person "buys" your advice (and I would make it worth the listing fees, say around 50 cents), and pays for it, then you send them a full listing (make sure you are on firm legal ground to keep from being sued) of what they need to look for, and what is a sure-fire fake. It would be a great service. Make the auctions as cheap as possible, no gallery photo, and 7 day listings. If you only sell 2 "pieces of advise" then next week, only put up 2. You wouldn't make any money, but once you have down a fairly nice spiel of what you want everyone to know, then it would just be a matter of sending them an email with your information. Just "my" 2 cents worth! I have been to the pottery festival in Ohio. The leprechaun was auctioned at Jeff Koehler's cookie jar auction on Sunday. It sold for $2700 (I think). I measured it. It was 12 and one half inches high. Supnick's book says 12 and one half inches high also. I never saw one in the books that has skin colored arms however. Finks auction on Saturday night had a mccoy squirrel that sold for $2000. It had damage. Jeff koehler's auction sold a mccoy squirrel for $4000. No damage. From nberlin@swfla.rr.com Fri, 16 Jul 2004 11:31:03 -0400 Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 11:31:03 -0400 From: Nina Berlin nberlin@swfla.rr.com Subject: [Mccoypottery-talk] off topic (need suggestions) Hi everybody. I know that we have a problem with the fake sellers, but what do you do about the sellers that don’t accurately represent their items. I recently bought an item on eBay that was not in the condition as it was described to be. The seller claimed the pottery to be in great condition with only some color ware, but when I received it, that just wasn’t even close. It has a crack in it, over all crazing, a pin hole on top, water stains, and inside a good size pottery gap. Not a glaze miss, but where the pottery doesn’t come together. When I contacted the seller, he still claims this to be in great condition. He has finally agreed to refund my money, but not the shipping. I strongly feel he should be responsible for the shipping as well, because I would not have bought the item if he had told the truth in the first place. I’m sure this has happened to some of you. Am I out of line to expect him to refund the shipping costs. I have all ready tried Square Trade, that was a waste of time. Is this postal fraud? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Nina From MidwestVintage@aol.com Fri, 16 Jul 2004 18:40:13 EDT Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 18:40:13 EDT From: MidwestVintage@aol.com MidwestVintage@aol.com Subject: [Mccoypottery-talk] off topic (need suggestions) Thats a tough one. I had the exact same thing happen to me with a McCoy teapot I bought on the bay. The seller got extremely nasty. I was shocked at some of the emails I received. The teapot was cracked and there were 2 chips. It did not happen during shipping as the chips weren't anywhere to be seen in the box. This man had good feedback so I thought he would make it good but he got really nasty. I reported it to ebay and sent them copies of the emails and pictures of the teapot I received and the listing number stating the teapot was mint. It never went anywhere except to give me a upset stomach. His emails were so viscious I was afraid to leave negative feedback which is what is he probably wanted. I decided to just leave it alone because I hate situations like that. He probably was hoping I would do exactly what I did. Sometimes if you paid by paypal they have buyers protection. At least he offered to give you your money back but I agree he should pay shipping. When you leave a negative feedback they get the last word and can make it sound like they did everything in their power to make you happy and you just won't accept an appology. I have seen feedback like that. Check it you paid by paypal to see if their is buyers protection. Maybe you can still cancel your payment and just send the item back. You will still be out the shipping. One of the hazards of buying on-line. Good luck and thank goodness not all sellers are like that. Julia From bigbvideo@yahoo.com Fri, 16 Jul 2004 16:30:43 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 16:30:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Walter McEntire bigbvideo@yahoo.com Subject: [Mccoypottery-talk] off topic (need suggestions) I agree with Julia. I think getting a refund on the pottery is probably the best you can do. Many of the less-than-reputable sellers wouldn't even agree to that much. Just chalk the shipping up to a bad eBay experience. Sooner or later we will all have them. And it just makes us appreciate the sellers (and buyers) who play fairly even more! As you found out, Square Trade is a joke. And although you can report him to eBay, nothing will be done. If he refunds your money for the pottery, you won't have a claim for postal fraud. And like Julia said, if you give him a negative or neutral feedback, he will most likely retaliate. Best not to leave feedback at all. What you CAN do, is let people know who the seller was so they can avoid a similiar situation. I'm sure others on this list besides myself would appreciate knowing who to avoid. Sorry you had a bad experience. It takes the fun out of eBay and makes you apprehensive about the next seller. But thankfully there are more good sellers than bad! -Walter __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? But you can leave a "response" to their feedback. You can even leave a "response to their response." I've only neg'd someone once. I received some broken pottery from a lady one time who hadn't bought the insurance after I had paid for it. (I'll never understand why someone likes to pocket the ins. money. It was only $1.30!). Anyway - she couldn't produce the receipt, of course, and she got real ugly when I emailed a pic of the broken piece and asked her to refund my money, so I neg'd her. She then responded to my neg, something to the effect of, "Buyer has his purchases mixed up! Check my previous excellent feedback!" I responded (to her response) ..... "Nope. I can prove it with pics." She had actually already left positive feedback for me as soon as she received my payment, even before I received the item - which is the way it should be, right? But ... I wonder if she has ever done *that* again? mj p.s. thanks for the prayers, everybody who said one when I asked for it. The piece that I mentioned which came to me broken was only $5. Actually, it was 4 McCoy planters in one "lot/box" for $20.00. The seller did a poor packing job. All of them being in one box wasn't really the problem because she put packing material between each one - on the inside, that is. The problem was that she "packed" one of them right next to the edge/side of the box with nothing between it and the box itself. It arrived damaged, of course ... broken "clean in two," as they say. As I said, I paid the extra for the insurance, so when I found out that she didn't buy the insurance for me, I didn't appreciate it. There's more to this whole story than I've told here, like ... how long it took me to get her to respond --- then, how many times we emailed each other --- her accusing me of "being mixed up with another seller" --- then of being a liar to "get it for $5.00 cheaper" --- then me finally proving it by borrowing a digital camera (before I had one of my own) and emailing pictures to her, etc., etc., etc. *SIGH* ..... a very, very frustrating thing to have happen over $5.00. But as you say, Elizabeth, the money's not the real issue. mj At 11:12 PM 7/16/2004 -0400, you wrote: >I got a nasty negative feedback recently and a nasty email because I had >left negative feedback when I had had no response to my email, an ebay >invoice and a payment reminder. But the link on their page to send spoofs only took me to an "ask a question" page. So I asked a question. Where do I forward the email? I didn't attach or paste it. Just asked the question. I got a reply back. The same "concerned" "this is not from PayPal" "we're looking into it" "contacting the appropriate parties" etc. Hmmm. Interesting. They didn't get the email, so how do they know? Makes you wonder if ANY of the things forwarded to eBay or PayPal ever get looked at. I'm thinking not. There isn't much they can do about it anyway, so I doubt I'll bother forwarding them any more in the future. I did change my passwords and will keep an eye on my PayPal account to make sure the only charges are mine, but as usual, eBay and PayPal are pretty useless. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? There is an antique place (Jimmy's Antiques) on 127 near Lake Cumberland in KY that sets up and has other "antique dealers" set up on his property as well. Hey Ya'll, I asked the seller of the black mammy llrh cj this question and this is the response I got. Question about your item Dear hephzibubba, You asked: "are you aware that this is not a "real" piece of mccoy pottery. mccoy never made a little red riding hood jar. Just thought you would like to know. Dave" I purchased this jar in Atlanta in early 90s from the man who (around 1990) bought the McCoy name & various McCoy molds. It is stamped McCoy in the mold at the bottom of the piece. I didn't mark it as "vintage" because it is not...and I didn't mark it as "repro" because I never could find documentation of an "original" (40s - 50s) jar like this. TY! Hello David: The point the seller is missing is that if the so called person bought a mold, McCoy never had a mold of a red riding hood since they never made such a jar, hence it is a fake. Cheers!
