Hi, Terry, I have several McCoy bambpp pots with saucers and a set of bamboo canisters but nothing that looks like this how ever it does have two dry spots and a USA typical of many of the pota in the floraline era. Maybe Chiquita can answer this one. This time, he had in his description that he was fairly certain they were reproductions, but the person he purchased them from had made them from the original molds. Or so he had been told. He was not trying to fool anyone and admitted that he really didn't know. So I emailed him and told him him that yes, these were fakes. But I doubted the person that sold them to him had made them. I sent him the link to Rosso's page, where all 6 of the jars he had were shown. He quickly emailed back this response. "Hi Walter. Thanks for the info. I have known this man for about 6 years and he has told me repeatedly that, at one time, he had purchased and made all the McCoy products. He even said that one of the molds cost him $13,000. But, being an auctioneer(Gen. Merchandise), I have learned to take what is said with a grain of salt. I can neither prove nor disprove what he said. That is why I try to tell what I have been told but also, that someone told me that information. I would rather not sell something than to get a bad rep., either on E-bay or in person. Again, thanks for your time to inform me and get the information to me." A little while later, he went to the link I sent, then replied with this. "I went to the site and I believe you are right. They are too close to what I had. I won't be getting anymore from him, especially with what I made on these!." I emailed him back and asked if, by any chance, did Roger Jensen sell him the cookie jars? Minutes later, he sent another email. He didn't exactly say it was Roger, but here's what he said. "Boy, I sure do appreciate the education I am getting. You are SOOO RIGHT! Needless to say, I won't be doing any more business with him. He had already ticked me off because he promised to help me get them listed on E-bay, then, after he got my money, he kept giving me excuses about seeing how this one was doing or that one, but never any names, just vague references to E-bay and saying that some people say to much and sometimes the less said, the better. So that is another reason I worded mine the way I did. I wanted people to know that I didn't know exactly what I had and I didn't want them to think that I was trying to Hoo-Doo them. I try my best to be honest and aboveboard in all my transactions, even if it means that I will lose some business now. But I am a firm believer that what I lose now, I will make up for a hundred times over later on down the road because my reputation preceded me." Hope the poor guy didn't get hosed too badly on the cookie jars, but you can bet it won't happen to him again! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Caudill mcaudill@kih.net Subject: [Mccoypottery-talk] Pottery Humor In front of a delicatessen, an art connoisseur noticed a mangy little kitten lapping up milk from a saucer. The saucer, he realized with a start, was a very rare and precious piece of pottery. He strolled into the store and offered two dollars for the cat. "It's not for sale," said the proprietor. "Look," said the collector, "that cat is dirty and probably half wild, but I'm eccentric. I like cats that way. I'll raise my offer to ten dollars." "It's a deal," said the proprietor, and pocketed the ten on the spot. "For that sum I'm sure you won't mind throwing in the saucer," said the connoisseur. "The kitten seems so happy drinking from it." "Nothing doing," said the proprietor firmly. "That's my lucky saucer. From that saucer, so far this week I've sold 12 cats." Is there a "best place" to go McHunting in Bell Buckle? Is it easy to find once you get to the town? I need to go one of these days since I live relatively close. I live about 1 hour & 15 minutes (75 miles) south-southwest of Nashville ... and about 1 hour south of Franklin which is in Williamson county, which is the next county south of Davidson county, which is Nashville. (Everybody got that?) LOL (Anybody know the best/quickest way from Lawrenceburg to Bell Buckle?) Vonda, there are also lots of antique shops in Franklin which isn't very far south of Nashville. It's an old, yet progressive town. It's really cool if you like historic downtown areas with a "square", federally designated historic neighborhoods, neat bed and breakfasts, etc., etc. If you go there, don't get scared on the way. HAHA! Franklin annexed an area about 15 years or so ago, so a part of the town limits now reach the freeway (I-65) which includes Cool Springs Galleria. When you first exit the freeway, you'll think, "Oh no! This is the same as everywhere else!" because you'll see a large mall surrounded by lots of streets with tons of shops ... restaurants, bars, banks, car dealerships, (Lexus, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, Infiniti, Saturn, Mercedes, etc., etc.) ... a medical center, coffee shops, toy stores, (new) furniture stores, electronics "superstores", hobby shops, bookstores, gas stations, a huge, 27 (?) screen movie theater, office complexes, office complexes, more office complexes, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. It's actually a great place if "modern-day" shopping is what you want. But if your shopping preferences are like mine - geared more towards the antique malls and cool/quirky shops, then you should go to "old" Franklin - well off the freeway, but yet not too far in a car. You could go to http://www.historicfranklin.com/ where you'll find links with lots of information about Franklin (including shopping, maps/directions from I-65, etc.). If you're into walking tours, check out http://www.franklinonfoot.com/ Vonda, I hope you have a safe, fun trip! Let us know how much McCoy you "adopt" and where you found it. Mark p.s. To all of you who pray - please remember me and my 17 year old daughter. Next week we're leaving for New York City for a couple of days, and then on to Boston to visit some friends we haven't seen in a long time. The major 24 hr. TV news channels keep mentioning more "chatter" about another major terrorist attack sometime this summer. They said the terrorists want to "hit us hard" this time. I'm trying not to let my daughter know that I'm a little apprehensive about having her in New York City on July the 4th, because I want her to have a great time. Since she's 17, this may be our last vacation together. But I will *not* allow those evil goons to change our plans! We're going!!! This talk list has been kinda quiet as of late, so I am going to get a little chatty now, lol. About 2 weeks ago, a new antique/gift store opened in a area that my wife and I frequent. We stopped in after visiting out local dairy queen(MMMMMM dipped cones). Well when we opened the door, we were politely told that they were not open yet, that they would be open in a week or so. As we turned to walk out, the lady said we were welcome to look around if we wanted to, so we took her up on her offer. Well sure enough we found some mccoy and at the end of the display shelf for mccoy, guess what we found? NOOO it wasnt a black mammy LLRH CJ, LOL, but it was a LLRH CJ marked mccoy, with a price over $200. Thanks to this group and the very informative books and websites, I asked her if she was aware that mccoy never made that CJ. She seemed suprised by this info. Well anyway, I went back there yesterday, and lo and behold the mccoy tag and price was removed. I talked with the lady at lenght, she thanked me for the info. I kinda enjoyed it, I must say. Anyway, I must thank many members of this list for their knowledge and willingness to share it, also the infectious enthusiasm for mccoy, which has turned this mccoy boy into a full blown addict. He's a great guy. He showed me some pictures of his collection. He and his wife have some *great* stuff! I've heard that the RC Cola and Moon Pie festival is lots of fun. It's an annual thing, right? Tullahoma isn't really all that far from me. Your cabin sounds wonderful. It's so nice to have a place to get away. My family has a place on the Tennessee river in north Alabama. (My county borders that county [Lauderdale] in AL). My kids love it, and most of the rest of my family. My parents love relaxing in the cabin, or under the trees, or getting out on the river, puttering around in the boat. My younger brother, my kids and my nephews love the "sea-doos" - or whatever they're called - but I'd like a "cabin in the hills" kind of a place better. It just seems a bit steep price wise, especially when there is nothing on the site to really indicate what you are getting for your money. Paypal wise, I would contact paypal. If you paid with paypal, then there is a record of your payment with paypal regardless of what the site says. Also, it is entirely possible that the payment process is not automated and the site admin may need to set up your account. To Terry and All: I apologize for bringing up another web site. I thought (and guess I assumed incorrectly) that we are all collectors, not competitors and that any information gained is a gain for the full McCoy Collecting Community. So I apologize that you took it as my mention of a new site is the same as trying to give you competition. Your site is very nice and referred to by me frequently. Now all that said, I really felt that your site was basically Nelson McCoy oriented and there were indeed 2 McCoy potteries, Brush and Nelson. I know many on this list also collect Brush McCoy and this will eventually be a good resource for them. As to paid subscriptions, all you have to do is upload one photo to the site of a piece of Brush McCoy and it's free, no subscription. I don't think the web developer really wanted the money, just made a good incentive to get folks to share their photos of their collections. Again, I'll go back to lurk mode. It seems that I have a tendency to get feathers riled up here....
