YES!!!!!! It was a lamp. They did panthers and Tigers too. They are terrifi=
c. I have sold several of the panthers over the years and now have a tiger =
that I am trying to clean up. Soak the florist clay with water and it will =
eventually pull out. The flowers are not part of the panthers I have had b=
efore. There is a picture in one of the books. If you take the time to soak=
 out the clay the flowers should come too. He will appreciate the TLC.=20

  Ok Group... no laughing please, but today at Brimfield I bought the uglie=
st=20
  McCoy panther I've ever seen. It's not so much the panther that's ugly, b=
ut=20
  what's growing out of his back. I was drawn to him because he's got a gol=
d=20
  finish, which I had not seen. Not the Sunburst Gold or Golden Brocade... =
but a=20
  smooth finish like the 23k gold paint, although it's not marked as such. =
The=20
  planter cavity is filled with what apprears to be some sort of green flor=
ist clay,=20
  but it's hard as a rock. In the center is a short metal tube like he was =
a=20
  lamp, but there is no other hole for the cord to come out. But then... hi=
s most=20
  noticible feature... he has the most hideous flowers sticking out his bac=
k. They=20
  are... well... I just don't know what they are. They are embedded in the =
hard=20
  clay material. They are some sort of heavy paper or fiber flowers that ap=
pear=20
  to be heavily shellacked. I was thinking that this was just a mess someon=
e=20
  made on their own, and was trying to figure out if I could wrench them or=
 cut=20
  them out of the clay material and dig they clay out. But then my friend s=
aid=20
  "maybe it's supposed to be that way." That put my plans for deforesting t=
he=20
  panther on hold. I suppose anything is possible, and it WAS made in the 5=
0's....=20
  when lapses in taste were not uncommon. So I paid the guy and asked him t=
o=20
  double bag it so no one would see me carrying him around in that state.

  Has anyone ever seen such a thing? Or is this the result of a craft proje=
ct=20
  gone tragically bad?

  I hesitate to put him with my other panthers and lions until I figure thi=
s=20
  out. I'm afraid he might be attacked.

  Walter
