We are more than happy and willing to help you in indentifying your jar. You really need to post a picture, the description you give, sadly was never EVER made by mccoy.
I have the harold nichols book that lists all jars made until 1986 and there is NOTHING as you describe. Until you send photos, the point is really a moot point.

Never ever made by McCoy. There were 2 jars made by other potters. Have seen 
some marked as McCoy but are FAKES!
Have a friend who bought one at auction marked McCoy but got her money back 
after she informed auctioneer of the fake.
