I'm still picking up pieces here and there when I get out and about. I was really disappointed to see on eBay past sales the number of cookie jars that went dirt cheap. I was new to all this when that guy on TV appraised the cat- in -the-basket for $1,400. My mother died 5 hrs. ago thinking it was worth that because she saw the same program. I saw her jar on past sales for about $50. My bubble popped ... but on the other hand I can now afford the ones I couldn't in the past. So I guess there is a good side to it. My aunt has the same cat jar in better shape and she too thinks its worth $1,400. So I"m about out of McCoy 101 and graduating to 102. This has been a real education. Regarding the planters...my grandmother died two weeks before my mother and she was 98. Her basement is full of those darn planters. I'm going to put about a dozen of mine on ebay just to move them out. I have decided to just keep the "Best" and move the rest. This pack rat needs a new nest. :) ELIZABETH VAUGHN wrote: Doug, We are not doing much collecting anymore, but over the last 30 or so years certain lines will be "hot" and then get hard to find and later to sell. I bought this on eBay last week. It was advertised as no chips. I can't believe that they didn't use their camera and their fingers to find all the chips on this piece! http://www.webs-best.com/chips_on_jardiniere.htm Just a reminder. You have to feel pottery, not just glance at it. And use a great camera that shows the flaws. Needless to say, I'm a very unhappy camper because this was to match a pedestal that has a lot of sentimental value to me. The pedestal (and the Jardinière it used to have) are very special to me. We bought it at a Koehler auction in Roseville several years ago when I was really getting into pottery and was smitten (still am) with the onyx glazes. Rodney (my late hubby who died 19 months ago) bought the Jard and Pedestal for me and it cost a small fortune. I hadn't had it 2 weeks and accidentally knocked the jard off the pedestal and broke it into many pieces. I've been trying very hart to replace the jard and although this one wasn't exact, it was close enough in colors to be able to put it out once again. For over 2 years I've had a daily search sent to me of Brush McCoy Jards and this was the first one I saw with the right colors, so I was just way too excited. However I did ask a lot of questions of the seller before bidding on it and was thrilled to win it. Now I'm on the hunt again. If anyone sees a jard with the onyx glaze that has a 5 1/4" base and the blues in the onyx glaze, please let me know! I know there is a chicken on a basket cookie jar out there because I have seen it in the McCoy book. But, it is totally different from mine. Mine is oval and the one in the book is round. It was my husband's grandmother's so I know it is old. Does anyone have any idea whether this is really McCoy or where I can find more information?
