hubby says  
around the fan screen there's a gasket that dries out, and there's a 1/2 gap
that pulls in lint into the motor,and the motor sparks, gets hot & burns..
the unit has to be opened & cleaned around the motor & heating element, at
least 
every 2 years...
remember don't just remove lint from the lint screen,take the machine apart
open & clean the bottom, inside by the motor. once every 2 years at least..
