Here's the info I found:
The western stoneware co., Monmouth, IL was formed in 1906 as a merger
of seven potteries: Monmouth Pottery Co., Weir Pottery. Macomb Pottery
Co. and Macomb Stoneware; Culbertson Stoneware, Clinton Stoneware and
Fort Dodge Stoneware.
Western stoneware manufactured stoneware, gardenware, flowerpots,
artware and dinnerware. Some early crocks, jugs and churns are found
with a plant number in the Maple Leaf Logo. Plants 1 thru 7 turn up.
In 1926 an artware line was introduced as the Monmouth Pottery Artware.
One by one each branch of the operation closed and today one branch
remains,. Western Stoneware is still in operation in Monouth on the
site of the Weir Pottery co.
Under Monmouth Pottery:
Monmouth pottery was established in 1892 in Monmouth, IL. Their primary
products were slat-glazed stoneware crocks, churns, jugs, bristol,
spongeware and brown glaze. Monmouth became the #1 plant after the
conglomorate absorption and until 1930 continued to produce stoneware
marked with their maple leaf logo. Items marked "Monmouth Pottery Co"
were made before 1906. The Western Stoneware co introduced a line of
artware in 1926. The name chosen for the artware was Monmouth Pottery.
Some stamps and paper labels add ILL to the name.
Hope this helps.
Becca
