Good question.  I would say that a fake is a reproduction that is passed
off as the real thing.  A reproduction can be legitimate as long as it
is indicated as such.  Someone else may have a better answer.  I know I
saw some really awful Roseville fakes at a flea market.  They were
reproductions but not marked as such so might fool a person not very
familiar with the real pottery.  Same with some lady head vases from the
same dealer.
