[Mccoypottery-talk] Morehead, KY

I live in Morehead, KY. Believe me, no one here (or anywhere else!) thinks =
Morehead is a large town. It has a population of 8000 without the college s=
tudents -- which kicks it up to 17,000 for nine months of the year. We may =
have a WalMart and a McDonalds (and too many other fast food restaurants to=
name), but we have not ONE really decent restaurant......and not many dece=
nt motels!
I drive to Lexington, KY - which IS a large town - to buy my groceries. Mor=
ehead is not *really* considered Appalachia or Eastern KY. We are northeast=
and the part of the world generally referred to as "eastern" KY is in the =
southeastern part of the state. We're only 40 miles from the Ohio River.
No large town here. Farmers, KY - where the antique store is - is just bare=
ly a wide place in the road! :) It's about 8-10 miles west of Morehead, bet=
ween Morehead and Lexington. A word of caution about the antique store in t=
he schoolhouse. Prices are generally quite inflated because many people aro=
und here "do" antiques. Quality isn't great -- unless one or another booth =
is the home of an estate sale. Quality is, then, better, but not price. An =
example. I saw a VERY common McCoy vase there recently - books for $20-$25.=
The owner wouldn't sell it for under $38 and swore that was "book." Having=
the book in my hand :) - it wasn't! I also saw very common Monmouth at ove=
r $60!! And it looked new.......so who knows.
If anyone needs exact directions -- or would like me to check out the McCoy=
at the Schoolhouse - let me know. It's only a few miles from where I live =
and I'll be glad to. KY estate sales, and there are lots of them, are bette=
r. If anyone knows where Vanceburg, KY is - or if you're close - they have =
a GREAT estate/antiques sale once a month.

Definitely east KY. About 60 miles east of Lexington off I-64. You woul=
d take the "Farmers" exit off I-64, then turn east on hwy 60 toward Morehea=
d. Morehead likes to think it's a large town if that counts - They're big =
enough for a McDonalds and a Wal-Mart, but no Starbucks.
